SPRING CLEANING!

Below you will find Majestic Building Maintenance’s Home Spring Cleaning Guide. Use this guide to get you and your family prepped and ready for spring and summer! To download a printable PDF of this list, click here.

FOYER/HOME ENTRANCE

  • Dust and clean light fixtures
  • Wash walls and the trim with a sponge and hot water
  • Wash the doors, door knobs and light switched
  • Dust and wash any furniture
  • Clean out the closet: store out-of-season items and donate what you don’t need
  • Clean or replace the entry mat
  • Sweep/Mop/Vacuum floors

 LIVING ROOM/HOME OFFICE

  • Open the windows – let some fresh air in!
  • Vacuum the sofa, love seat, and armchairs
  • Launder any throw pillows, blankets, etc.
  • Dust all surfaces, artwork, and decorations
  • Dust and clean light fixtures & ceiling fan
  • Carefully dust and clean electronics
  • Sort through closets, cabinets, DVD/CD collections, book shelves, magazine racks: sort, donate, recycle, and/or store!
  • Sweep/vacuum floors
  • Replace batteries in remotes
  • Spring clean your computer:
    • use canned compressed air to clean out your keyboard and modem
    • wipe down monitor
    • delete any old files, pictures, etc.
    • make any necessary updates
    • clean our browser cache and history
    • install any necessary spyware

BEDROOMS

  • Open the windows – let some fresh air in!
  • Wash bedding: sheets, pillowcases, mattress pads, bedskirts, and comforters
  • Wash pillows and/or replace old ones
  • Rotate and flip mattress if desired/applicable
  • Sort through closets and drawers: store out-of-season items & donate what you don’t need
  • Dust and clean all surfaces.
  • Clean out items from under the bed: what needs stored, organized into drawers, and donated?
  • Sweep/vacuum the floor

BATHROOMS

  • Open the windows – let some fresh air in!
  • Scrub down the shower & rinse out
  • Empty out cabinets, wipe clean, sort through items, and replace
  • Clean in and around the toilet
  • Clean countertops & sink
  • Sweep and mop the floor and baseboards
  • Launder any dirty towels, hand towels, and/or rugs, toilet seat covers, etc.
  • Do your toothbrushes need replacing?

KITCHEN

  • Open the windows – let some fresh air in!
  • Empty out your refrigerator and freezer. Clean the inside of your refrigerator, sort through food and throw out anything outdated.
  • Clean the oven and stovetop: remember to remove burners and knobs!
  • Empty out your drawers and cabinets. Clean the insides, sort through food and throw out anything outdated.
  • Go through your spice rack and throw out anything old
  • Clean the top of your fridge & behind, if possible
  • Clean out the food trap of your dishwasher. Run a cycle of hot water with one cup of bleach or vinegar to disinfect
  • Clean countertops & sink
  • Sweep and mop the floor and baseboards

DINING ROOM

  • Open the windows – let some fresh air in!
  • Empty out your cabinets. Clean the insides, sort and clean any necessary items.
  • Dust and clean any artwork, light fixtures, ceiling fans, etc.
  • Remove all chairs from the table and clean chairs appropriately
  • Clean tabletop taking care to remember any decorations, placemats, linens, dinnerware, etc.
  • Sweep the room and replace chairs

LAUNDRY ROOM

  • Open the windows – let some fresh air in!
  • Clean behind the washer and dryer
  • Clean out lint traps
  • Organize and throw out any old or broken hangers
  • Empty out, clean, and organize cabinets
  • Wipe down and clean outer surfaces of washer and dryer
  • Washer: Run a cycle of hot water with 1 gallon of white vinegar or 1 cup of bleach to clean and disinfect
  • Vacuum or wipe down the inside of your dryer. Check the outside vent for debris or lint that could be blocking the vent.

STAIRWELLS

  • Sweep and vacuum stairs
  • Spot clean the walls with a sponge and hot water
  • Wipe down the handrail and disinfect
  • Dust any art & light fixtures
  • Check posts and handrails for any needed repairs

OUTSIDE

  • Sweep porches and the walkway
  • Wash exterior doors. Give front door a fresh coat of paint, if necessary.
  • Clean or replace welcome mat
  • Power wash the siding
  • Remove and replace any dead potted plants
  • Pull weeds from flower beds

AROUND THE HOUSE:

  • Clean the blades of your ceiling fans.
  • Replace light bulbs throughout the house
  • Test smoke/carbon monoxide detectors and replace batteries when necessary
  • Clean vents
  • Check the expiration date of your fire extinguisher
  • Dust and clean draperies & curtains
  • Wash or beat out rugs
  • Change the air filter
  • Sort through and organize family photos
  • Sort and clean any extra zones such as linen closets, utility closets, office spaces, playrooms, mudrooms, etc
  • Clean out medicine cabinets. Safely discard any old prescriptions!
  • Deep clean carpets and polish wood floors
  • Wash the walls & touch up paint, if necessary
